Andy Murray opens new garden

04/12/2009

Andy Murray opens new gardenTennis pro Andy Murray opened an eco-garden earlier today in a Scottish primary school.

The Scottish-born star attended the event in Glasgow, which marked the success of RBS Supergrounds, a project helping fund gardens and play spaces in schools.

Lucky pupils in Broomhill Primary in Glasgow's West End welcomed the star to their school with questions about what he wanted for Christmas.

Unsurprisingly, the tennis player, who turned pro in 2005, said he wanted a Wimbledon trophy.

The school used a £4,000 grant from the RBS scheme to turn waste ground outside their school into an eco garden, which will be used as a teaching resource and a play area.

Speaking about the project to the Herald Scotland, Murray said: "I do not get back to Scotland anywhere near as much as I would like but the Supergrounds project is fantastic. This is the first step to getting kids more involved in sport."
