Bingo chain to get makeover
19/10/2009
Bingo chain Rank Group is planning to makeover its bingo clubs.
The group, which runs 103 clubs across the UK, has introduced waiter-served food and drinks including champagne in some of its halls. Mecca bingo club in Beeston, Notts was first to receive a £5 million makeover, called Full House, with plans also in place to spend £3 million on halls in Aberdeen and Birmingham.
The Beeston hall has witnessed unprecedented footfall and player traffic since its makeover, reports Bingoport.
While Mecca Bingo has seen the closure of several of its bingo halls this year, its third quarter results show that revenue inflows have increased by more than two per cent compared to the same period in 2008. The company said: "In line with the plans we set out at our half yearly results, we will continue to invest in our businesses, with a particular focus on the growth of the G casino brand and the further development of the 'Full House' concept in Mecca Bingo."
It is hoped the changes will draw a bigger audience to the industry which has been hit by the smoking ban and tax hikes.
