Brit actor Daniel Day-Lewis to be honoured at film awards

Brit actor Daniel Day-Lewis to be honoured at film awardsLegendary British actor Daniel Day-Lewis will receive an honour at the British Independent Film Awards (BIFAs) ceremony.

The 52-year-old will collect the Richard Harris Award for his outstanding contribution to British film at the December event.

Day-Lewis is best known for his Oscar-winning roles in 1989's My Left Foot: The Story of Christy Brown Day-Lewis and 2007's There Will Be Blood. He has received Oscar nominations for films such as Gangs of New York and In the Name of the Father.

Meanwhile, Fish Tank, Andrea Arnold's film, was been nominated for eight awards, while the movie Moon has seven nods.

Other films which have received a large number of nominations include An Education, In The Loop and Nowhere Boy, which each have six nods.

Johanna von Fischer and Tessa Collinson, BIFA directors, said: "We have had a record number of films submitted this year, with the pre-selection committee viewing over 200 films. A highlight from the nominations is the very strong debut director category."
