Dan Brown book breaks sales record

17/09/2009

Dan Brown book breaks sales recordThe Lost Symbol, the latest novel from the Da Vinci Code author Dan Brown, has obliterated first-day sales records for an adult fiction book, shifting well over a million copies in its first 24 hours of release.

Brown's new book once again follows Harvard symbologist Robert Langdon, who this time delves into the mysterious world of the Freemasons.

"We are seeing historic, record-breaking sales across all types of our accounts in North America for The Lost Symbol," said Sonny Mehta, editor-in-chief of the book's US publisher Knopf Doubleday.

However, the book fell well short of the record for fiction set by Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – the final novel in JK Rowling's series of seven – which sold more than two million copies in the UK alone in its first day.

Both the Da Vinci Code and its predecessor Angels & Demons have been into Hollywood blockbusters starring Tom Hanks, the latter of which has recently been released on DVD.
