David Attenborough 'to turn garden into a wildlife haven'Wildlife expert David Attenborough is planning to create a wildlife haven in his back garden, it has been reported.

According to the London Evening Standard, Sir David is hoping to transform the derelict pub which is next door to his period home in Richmond, London.

He bought the pub last year for £1 million and is planning to turn the car park into an orchard, containing 14 fruit trees, while an area of waterlogged soil is to be created for marsh plants.

Sir David is also hoping to build a glasshouse, bog garden, extend his home and create a self-contained flat.

Four neighbours complained about the plans but Richmond council also received 16 letters supporting the scheme, which is due to be approved next week, the newspaper added.

Earlier this month, Edinburgh Zoo recognised Sir David, who recently filmed the Life series for BBC, for his contribution to conservation.
