Expert advises sampling some 'unfashionable' wines
15/09/2009
A number of once-loved wines are returning to favour and increasingly appearing on UK dinner tables, it has been claimed.Writing for the Daily Mail, wine expert Olly Smith, a regular on TV cooking show Saturday Kitchen, encouraged people to return to drinking some old favourites such as Muscadet, which he claims has been transformed in recent years thanks to modern techniques. He also recommends re-sampling a Frascati and trying some Austrian grape varieties, which originally fell out of favour with wine lovers back in the 1980s, saying that the Gruber Veltliner in particular is worth a try. "Remember, with unfashionable wines you'll not only save a few quid, but also help resurrect some quality drinks. It's a win-win," he concluded. According to online resource AskMen.com, the top emerging wine regions include Switzerland, the Ukraine, Greece, Canada and Romania, all of which are producing some delicious grape varieties worth trying.
