Johnny Depp will return to the role of Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
The 46-year-old actor has secured a minimum £21 million pay deal for On Stranger Tides, the fourth instalment of the series. If the new film becomes a box-office hit, the star could earn even more.
Orland Bloom and Kiera Knightley will not star in the new film but it is rumoured that the female lead will be played by Penelope Cruz instead.
The pay-deal makes Depp one of Hollywood's high-earning actors which also include Harrison Ford, who received £38 million for Indiana Jones 4, as well as Tom Hanks who netted £29 million for Angels and Demons.
Cameron Diaz is Hollywood's highest earning actress, getting £28.5 million for her role in What Happens in Vegas, according to the Independent. The first Pirates of the Caribbean film was released in 2006, while Dead Man's Chest followed in the same year. The third instalment of the franchise, At World's End, was released in 2007.
