Mad Max series to be revived
30/10/2009
Hit 1980s film franchise Mad Max, the series which made Mel Gibson famous, is to be revived, according to Variety magazine. British actor Tom Hardy will take the role of policeman turned road-warrior Mad Max Rockatansky, originally played by Gibson in the first three movies. Hardy recently starred as Heathcliff in an ITV adaptation of Wuthering Heights and also appeared in Black Hawk Down. According to the magazine, South African Charlize Theron, who won an Oscar for her portrayal of serial killer Aileen Wuornos in Monster, will also star. The original Mad Max, which was released in 1989, was a big hit and inspired the successful 1981 sequel The Road Warrior in the US. Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome followed in 1985, and starred singer Tina Turner. Set to start filming next August in Australia, Mad Max: Fury Road will be written and directed by George Miller, the original director. Miller has previously directed Happy Feet and Babe.
