Man Booker Prize shortlist announced
09/09/2009
The shortlist for this year's Man Booker Prize has been announced and it includes two previous winners. Six authors in total have been whittled down for the fiction prize, which will be awarded on October 6th at London's Guildhall. Among the nominees is South African writer JM Coetzee for Summertime, who if triumphant would become the prize three times in total. AS Byatt is also in the running for a second win after her novel Possession won the Booker Prize in 1990. "We're thrilled to be able to announce such a strong shortlist, so enticing that it will certainly give us a headache when we come to select the winner," said the chair James Naughtie. The winning author will not only receive £50,000, they can look forward to greatly increased sales and worldwide recognition. Last year saw the 40th anniversary of the Man Booker Prize, which was scooped by Aravind Adiga for his novel The White Tiger. Celebrate in style with our latest champagne deals
