Strictly Come Dancing makes the record books

15/09/2009

Strictly Come Dancing makes the record booksStrictly Come Dancing has entered the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's most successful television format.

The BBC show, which sees celebrities pairing with trained dancers to test their ballroom skills, has had its format sold in 38 nations across the globe.

In the UK, the seventh series of the show, which is hosted by veteran TV presenter Bruce Forsyth and Tess Daly, begins its seventh run on Friday (September 18th).

Among the competitors hoping to waltz their way to the top prize will be ex-Eastenders actress Natalie Cassidy, boxer Joe Calzaghe and former tennis champ Martina Hingis.

The latest season will also see a change to the judging panel, with former series champion Alesha Dixon replacing Arlene Phillips.

This season will also be the first time that Strictly has been scheduled to show at the same time as ITV's X-Factor on a Saturday evening.

Commenting on the move, an ITV spokesperson said it was "disappointing" as millions of people enjoy both shows, however the BBC said that with both programmes adding extra shows this year, there is actually more choice for viewers.
