Financial worries 'causing health problems'

25/11/2009

Financial worries 'causing health problems'Financial worries have begun to have a negative impact on the health of Brits, according to new research.

The study, carried out by CreditExpert, found that increased financial pressures has led to stress related illnesses such as 'Recession Strain Injury' which can cause neck, shoulder and arm pain as well as pins and needles.

In September, Simplyhealth said that over half of people living in Britain are so scared of losing their job in the current climate that they are risking their health by working through illness.

Speaking about the results, Chris Tapp, director of Credit Action, a national money education charity, said more people than ever are worried about their finances.

"A lot of people have lost jobs, a lot of people are worried that they will lose their job and so even those people that don't have a financial problem right now are worried about what the future might hold for them," he said.

Mr Tapp went on to say that financial issues can affect people in many ways including people's emotional wellbeing, their relationships and their health.

He advised consumers to seek free and independent advice online or from charitable organisations if they are worried about their finances.
