Adults 'not getting enough exercise'
05/02/2010
Over two-thirds of UK adults are not getting their recommended 30 minutes of exercise per day, a new study from the British Heart Foundation has revealed. The results show that 68 per cent of adults do not do sufficient physical activity each day, despite nearly three-quarters of people considering themselves healthy. Elin Tough, features editor at Zest magazine, said people can work exercise into the day without noticing it. "People are mistakenly categorising exercise as having to get into their gym kit and jog around the park or slog it out at the gym and underestimating incidental exercise," she said. "Get off the bus a stop earlier, buy your lunch from the cafe furthest from your work, ditch the lift and climb the stairs to your office," she advised. Doing a spot of housework can also be a great way to keep fit, while gardening is a "brilliant calorie burner", she noted.
