23/09/2009
More than five million Brits avoid playing sports because of poor eyesight, according to a new survey by laser eye surgery specialists Ultralase.Of the 1,000 active people with poor eyesight who were questioned, 64 per cent admitted they do not wear their glasses or contact lenses during sport, which can hamper their performance. Almost a third also said that if they had better eyesight, they would be more inclined to compete and try out new sports. Olympic hero Jonathan Edwards, who underwent laser eye surgery himself, said: "There's no doubting that perfect eyesight can give you a huge advantage. He added: "There are many options out there so people dont have to discouraged from taking part just because of poor eyesight. I chose the laser eye surgery route." Leeds-based Ultralase recently bought out Irish rival Eye Laser in a bid to branch out further into Europe, the Yorkshire Post reported.
