Lying on your back 'is best sleep position'

Despite suggestions that it can lead to snoring, the healthiest position for sleeping in on your back, it has been claimed. Dr Steven Park, a head and neck surgeon and member of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine, said sleeping on your back with the head elevated by between ten and 30 per cent is healthiest, the Huffington Post reported. People who sleep in this position could have better blood circulation and find it easier to breath, he noted. "The legs should be slightly elevated, too, and the person should try to stay on his or her back as much as possible. The ideal position is one you would be in if leaning back in a recliner chair," the newspaper added. Last week, Jim Horne, director of the Sleep Research Centre at Loughborough University and author of Sleepfaring: A Journey Through The Science Of Sleep, told the Daily Mail that women need 20 minutes more sleep than men each night.
