Muscle and back pain account for half of sick days
01/10/2009
Muscle and back pain account for almost half of all days taken off sick from work in the UK, according to new figures from Work Foundation. It said musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) cost the UK economy £7 billion each year, rising to 240 billion euros (£219 billion) if Europe is taken into account. The Fit For Work Europe study found an estimated one million people in the UK alone suffer with an MSD, such as lower back pain, upper limb disorders and rheumatoid arthritis. "As Europe now struggles to emerge from the global recession, one consideration policymakers should address is how labour productivity in businesses is being undermined by these often very painful conditions," said Stephen Bevan, managing director of the Work Foundation. Deep Heat recently released its new WellPatch to relieve back pain, which provides up to eight hours' warmth and allows sufferers to take pain killers concurrently. Looking for a comfortable bed?
