People 'keeping teeth longer'
04/12/2009
An aging population and better oral care is resulting in more work for dentists, according to the British Dental Association (BDA). Professor Damien Walmsley, the BDA's scientific adviser, said that this is likely to include an increase in demand for replacement fillings and care for tooth erosion Speaking about Professor Walmsley's comments, Dr Phil Stemmer of the Teeth for Life centre in the West End of London, agreed that people are keeping their teeth longer. "We now know how to save teeth. There is no reason ever for you to lose a tooth. The teeth are staying in and therefore there's more work," he said. He also said that successive governments have not funded dental treatments on the NHS "well enough". "There should be enough dentists who are accessible to everybody from age one to age 100," he added. People interested in cosmetic dental procedures should "see a reputable dentist and discuss it with them," he advised. See how you can transform your life with a free laser eye surgery consultation.
