Quality sleep in comfortable bed 'better than longer rest'
09/06/2010
Quality rather than quantity is more important when it comes to a good sleep, according to one expert. Speaking to the Independent, Dr Nerina Ramlakhan, the author of Tired but Wired, said taking naps, relaxing and exercising can help you feel refreshed. "The biggest myths are that we need seven or eight hours a day, or that we shouldn't wake up in the night," she said. "But waking early in the morning is perfectly normal. Students can still function well in an exam if they don't sleep the previous night," Dr Ramlakhan advised. She added that people should get the amount of sleep which their own body requires, whether that is four or ten hours, instead of worrying about getting eight hours' rest each night. Napping is also a good idea, she noted, adding that this can help feel well-rested. Earlier this month, research from Travelodge revealed that the average Briton spends just six hours and 21 minutes asleep in bed each night. Looking for a comfortable bed?
