Sleep 'important for maintaining healthy weight'

Getting a good night's sleep in a comfortable bed is key to many people's energy levels, but it could also play an important role in helping us maintain a healthy weight.Writing in the Daily Telegraph, nutritionist Sarah Stanner said sleep plays a key role in restoring and revitalising the body and mind. She said: "It also seems to be important in maintaining a healthy body weight, as lack of sleep has been linked with increased appetite and a higher risk of obesity." If you're struggling to sleep at night, looking at your diet may be beneficial, she noted. "Studies show that too many caffeine-containing foods and drinks can disturb sleep among susceptible individuals, so these shouldn't be consumed late in the day." Recently, a study published in the journal Psychological Science suggested that good night's sleep can improve people's memory and help them make links between loosely related facts.
