Winter bulge? Diets will only get you so far
14/07/2010
After such a cold winter, it's probably not surprising that some of us are currently sporting slight winter bulges. It doesn't help either that we're a nation obsessed with junk food.In fact, research by Lighterlife shows that the average Brit spends nearly £1,000 a year on junk food, which equates to over £17 worth of chocolate, biscuits, crisps, soft drink and alcohol per week. And, thanks to the recent spell of warm weather, it's harder than ever to cover up excess weight. Heavy winter coats have been pushed to the back of wardrobes as we make room for unforgiving light shirts, shorts and summer dresses. If you're looking to lose a couple of pounds, it's important to fully assess your eating habits, according to one expert. Psychologist David Moxon said: "People need to sit down and think about their eating habits and patterns and then question the underlying reasons for them. If they are not hungry then perhaps they could fill that transition with some other thoughts or behaviour." He added: "Diets are effective initially, but real change comes from the way we manage our food, our lives and the way we relate food to our everyday lives."
