You can reverse the effects of ageing on teeth, top dentist says
09/11/2009
A number of dental issues which can make you appear older can be reversed with cosmetic dental treatments, according to Dr Anoop Maini.
Dr Maini, who works in Aqua Dental Spa in London, said that teeth staining and receding gums can add years to people.
Staining is often caused by drinking tea, coffee and red wine and Dr Maini said it was important for people to lower their consumption of these products if they want to keep their teeth white.
The top dentist, a cosmetic dental specialist and member of the board of directors of the British Academy of Cosmetic Dentistry, added that staining could be treated with simple products such as an air polish spray.
Receding gums, which also cause ageing signs, can also be treated.
Dr Maini said: "There are procedures for gums called gum lifts which can reverse that. You can also get porcelain veneers which are used in situations where the teeth themselves are worn out structurally, to give the teeth a more youthful shape."
A survey published last week by Oral B found that bad teeth can age a woman's appearance by 13 years.
