Bathroom DIY offers home improvement bargains

Doing a spot of DIY in the bathroom often turns out to be a home improvement bargain, it has been claimed. According to Matthew Piner, retail analyst at Verdict Research, bathrooms are likely to be a "big area of growth" this year. "There has been a long-term trend towards lighting and homeware and the big stores in particular continue to add that to their offers," he noted. People are also investing in fitted kitchens, he said, adding that this is another huge growth area. "Last year in particular, gardening [was popular] – taking advantage of the good weather and the ageing population and people who have gardening as a hobby," he noted. Earlier this week, Adrienne Chinn of Adrienne Chinn designs, who is a member of the British Institute of Interior Design, said people should pick out colours and use them "as zippy accents around the room".
