Brits 'going to bed later than ever before'

30/03/2010

Brits 'going to bed later than ever before'British people are staying up later than ever, according to a new survey, which revealed that the average weeknight bedtime is now 23.41 GMT.

The study of 4,000 people, which was published in the Metro, revealed that we're now hitting the sack nearly an hour later than three years ago.

Longer working hours, money worries and stress are responsible for our declining hours in bed, the research from diet experts Cambridge Weight Plan shows.

Speaking to the Metro, clinical hypnotherapist Dr Georgina Cannon, said: "A lack of sleep is extremely damaging to health and lowers the immune system."

Getting to the bottom of why you are having problems sleeping is important, she advised, while sleep expert Dr Chris Idzikowski said investing in a comfortable mattress will help a person have an average of 42 minutes' more sleep each night.

Earlier this month, Sir Terry Wogan revealed that he has been enjoying extra time in bed since retiring from his Radio 2 breakfast show.
