Brits plan garden and home improvements for EasterPeople across the UK are planning to spend Easter weekend doing a spot of gardening or undertaking some home improvements, a new survey has revealed.

The research, which was carried out by B&Q, shows that the average person is hoping to spend 15 hours doing a mixture of DIY, gardening and decorating jobs in their homes over the Easter break.

Some 24 per cent of people surveyed are hoping to get started on some home improvements. Of those who revealed their DIY plans, 41 per cent of women said they would do a spot of painting, while 65 per cent of men are going to fit shelves.

Gardening ranks even higher, with 33 per cent of people claiming they would be gardening this weekend, while 34 per cent plan to visit family.

B&Q also revealed that 79 per cent of all seeds sold at the chain store were for vegetables.

A B&Q spokesman said: "The Grow Your Own (GYO) trend we identified last year is continuing to develop and it seems that after a year of giving growing a go, people have got more confident and are now real GYO enthusiasts."

Recently, the Times suggested that people who want to grow their own vegetables should sow garden bargains such as potatoes, salad crops, peas, beans and spinach.
