Crash diets 'often don't work'
11/05/2010
People who go on crash diets, dramatically restricting their food and drink intake, could find that they quickly regain any weight lost, it has been claimed.According to Dr Jacquie Lavin, head of nutrition and research at Slimming World, many people who go on crash diets "soon go back to their old eating habits and very often regain the weight plus more". She was commenting after research from the University of Florida found that losing weight quickly may be the best way to achieve lasting results. Dr Lavin added: "While speed of weight loss can be important, it isn't nearly as important as making sure that lifestyle changes are sustainable and that means making them realistic enough to be kept up in the long-term." Making a number of gradual changes to the way you cook, shop and eat, to ensure you don't feel "deprived" is a much more effective way to maintain a healthy weight, she added.
