Gardening without a garden 'is possible'

28/04/2010

Gardening without a garden 'is possible'People living in flats or those who don't have any outdoor space can still do some gardening, according to one expert.

Liz Murphy, associate editor at House Beautiful, said having a garden attached to your property is not a prerequisite for enjoying some gardening.

She noted that people do not need an outside space in order "to enjoy growing flowers, herbs, vegetables and fruit".

"Pots and planters can fit on a small patio or balcony, window boxes can brighten up a windowsill, and hanging baskets work on the outside of flats as well as houses."

"A hanging basket is a good way to attract butterflies literally to your doorstep," said Ms Murphy, who added that fruit and vegetables can look just as good as flowers in hanging baskets.

Earlier this week, letting agents Belvoir advised that keeping your front garden or outdoor space well maintained helps creates a good impression and makes your property more lettable.
