Switch providers rather than 'ditching home insurance'
21/01/2010
Britons should switch providers rather than parting with cover altogether if they are trying to save money on their home insurance, it has been claimed.
Neil Munroe, external affairs director for Equifax said switching insurers was a sensible option.
"What people need to be aware of though, is being sure to match up what they already have with their new package."
He warned that homeowners could lose benefits if they weren't careful, including some which they may not have used before but which could be "critical in the future".
According to a survey by the Nottingham Building Society, as many as one in four people in the UK have cut back on home and contents insurance in order to save money during the recession.
The building society has emphasised the importance of home insurance, dubbing the cutback on insurance a 'false economy'.
Mr Munroe commented that payment protection insurance is another important consideration at this time.
