Would you choose a holiday over home improvements?
26/07/2010
After a few months of working with only weekends off, most of us are in dire need of a holiday. After all, who doesn't feel better after a few days in the sun? But, you need to weigh up whether you really can afford that holiday abroad, the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC) has advised. Andrew Leech, director at the NHIC, said some people are delaying improving their home in order to spend their earnings on foreign trips, but warned that DIY is often "more essential". And, if the results of B&Q are anything to go by, we are doing less DIY at the moment. Its owner Kingfisher announced that UK sales fell by 4.4 per cent in the ten weeks up to July 10th 2010. "People are thinking about going away on holiday and not spending as much money on DIY improvements, but that is rather a negative approach because really home improvements should take priority over holidays," Mr Leech said.
