British drivers 'easily distracted'
27/08/2009
British drivers are easily distracted from the road by a nice view, which can have implications for motor insurance policies, according to the AA.An AA/Populus survey of over 21,000 members found that three-quarters of all drivers said that their eyes are easily drawn to an attractive vista beyond the car window, taking their attention off the road in front of them. Male drivers were also much more likely than their female counterparts to lose their concentration due to an attractive person of the opposite sex in another car or on the street. Simon Douglas, director of AA Insurance, said there are many distractions for the modern-day driver and for some drivers too much could lead to a collision. "Keep your eyes on the road, hands on the wheel and try to shut out other diversions - no matter how decorative," he advised. Drivers should take care on the roads this weekend as Visit England predicts that nearly 12 million Brits will head off on a bank holiday getaway.
