Electric cars 'often too expensive for UK motorists'

Electric cars 'often too expensive for UK motorists'The cost of electric cars is often "too high" for many UK customers, one expert has claimed.

Dr Ben Lane of Whatgreencar.com said the high price tag, fears of short battery life and mileage limitations are putting people off investing in greener cars.

He said: "You need to have a recharge point that you can access at home and usually you need a driveway, so maybe in the States it's easier, but if you're in downtown New York or London you might live in a flat on the fourth floor and you can't get a cable to your car."

"Each of those [reasons] in itself is enough to kill the market so we've got a way to go yet," he added.

Dr Lane was commenting after a report released on June 18th by J.D Power and Associates predicted that global sales of electric cars will increase by 200,000 this year compared to last year.
