Over-50s opting for life on the open road
08/09/2009
There is an abundance of over-50s opting for life on the open road by investing in a motorbike, according to Saga Insurance.A new study from the firm found that 21 per cent of all motorcyclists were aged over 50, with over 700,000 owning a mean machine and a million more yearning to be a biker. Most of these easy riders said they chose a bike because they love the freedom of being on the open road. The trend seems to be growing, as almost 40 per cent of those surveyed said they have turned to biking only recently. Andrew Goodsell, executive chairman of Saga Group, said: "With more over-50s than ever before taking to the road, it is a great indication that this age group is really embracing the idea of living life to the full." Another way the over-50s have been branching out of late is over the web, with new figures from Millennium revealing that this age group spends more than £150 a month on average each month online.
