Home improvement offers 'energy efficiency'

21/04/2010

Home improvement offers 'energy efficiency'Home improvement offers people the chance to carry out jobs which will increase the energy efficiency of their property, it has been claimed.

According to the National Home Improvement Council (NHIC), people should always consider doing some energy efficiencies when improving a property.

Andrew Leech, director at the NHIC, said that adding kitchen extensions and new bathrooms are "sensible improvements" but homeowners need to consider upgrades such as water conservation as well.

"The baths which most people have installed are real water gobblers. You can get baths now which will give you a very good bathing experience, but don't use as much water and that is the sort of thing that people should be considering," he said.

Recent research from Shelter and the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) found that three-quarters of people have a dream home improvement project that they intend to carry out. However, only 12 per cent say that increasing the energy efficiency of their property is a motivation.
