Many missing out on home improvement grants
01/09/2009
Many homeowners across the UK are missing out on grants available to them for energy-saving home improvements, according to the Home Heating Guide.Consumers may be missing out on thousands of pounds, according to the Guide, which said that many may be eligible for grants to install insulation or central heating. Grants and rebates are also available for new high-efficiency boilers as part of the government's drive to reduce household carbon emissions. David Holmes of Home Heating Guide said: "Many homeowners are unaware that grants are available which cover relatively wide criteria and not just reserved for a lucky few. "We're encouraging consumers, especially those on benefits to check out the website to see if they are eligible." The company estimated that adding loft and cavity wall insulation can reduce energy bills by up to £265 a year, as well as saving 1,410 kg/year in CO2 emissions. According to DirectGov, people aged 50 to 64 have a higher carbon footprint than any other age group in the UK due to high car usage, foreign holidays and eating out.
