No great movement in housing market, says Council of Mortgage LendersThere will be no significant movement in the housing market over the coming months, according to the Council of Mortgage Lenders (CML).

The comments followed Hometrack's research, which revealed that house prices increased by 0.2 per cent in April, up from 0.3 per cent in March.

A spokesperson for the Council of Mortgage Lenders suggested that people are more likely to wait before buying a house because of uncertainty about the economy and elections.

"We are not expecting too much movement on transactions or prices, et cetera. There'll be a few ups and downs as we go along which is to be expected but at the moment there are very, very low levels of transactions," she said.

She added that it is unlikely that there will as high an increase as there used to be, adding that it might go either up or down slightly.

"There will be ups and downs but what we think is that everything is going to be flat for the rest of the year and there is not going to be a lot of movement either way", she stated.
