Women 'embracing DIY'

01/06/2010

Women 'embracing DIY'Women in the UK are increasingly taking on DIY themselves rather than leaving it to their partners, it has been claimed.

Recent research from the californiacompany.co.uk found that nine out of ten women own a power tool and 67 per cent do the DIY in their home themselves.

Commenting on the findings, DIY expert Francesca Gamble said: "I think the trend of females being more dominant has grown over the last number of years. Obviously in the workplace more women are now becoming important figureheads, and that transfers through to the home as well.

"Women are taking more responsibility and learning new skills themselves."

She added that women are not taking on different types of DIY to men, but are having a go at whatever tasks need doing, big or small.

"Women will do just as good a job [as men] and will have a go at anything," Ms Gamble continued.
