Nearly 50 per cent of people do what they can to protect the environment while at home, yet most don't take these habits when them when they jump on some cheap flights, new research has revealed.According to the research by Greener Holidays, although 81 per cent of people recycle while at home, only 41 per cent do so while on holidays. Commenting on the survey, Sue Hurdle, chief executive at the Travel Foundation, said most people on holidays are thinking about relaxing and having a good time. "The things that have become second nature to us at home, like saving energy, remembering to switch the light off and recycling, those things may not occur to us in the [holiday] destination," she noted. She advised that people on holidays should take short showers, buy local food and reduce their use of plastic bags to help protect the environment.
