Lovers of rail holidays who have cheap flights to America could find that Amtrak's Pacific Surfliner passenger rail service offers a great way to see California. The service, which runs from San Diego, Los Angeles and Santa Barbara to San Luis Obispo, is celebrating its tenth birthday this year. William Bronte, chief of the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) division of rail, said: "The Pacific Surfliner route has had a tremendous impact on rail travel in California." Emmett H. Fremaux, Amtrak vice president, marketing and product management, added that millions of people are choosing to travel on the service because of "ten years of great service, style and amenities". Last month, Maddy Morgan, PR director for California Tourism UK and Ireland, advised that visitors give themselves enough time to experience the US state.
