03/06/2010

Canada's top ten beaches revealedCanada might be better known for skiing but under a new initiative, the Canadian Tourism Commission is trying to make people more aware of its other outdoor activities.

The tourism organisation has announced the country's top ten beaches, which includes Cox Bay, Tofino and British Columbia.

A popular surfing beach, Cox Bay is the last cove of a chain of beaches at the end of Long Beach.

Canada's Dead Sea Manitou Beach in Saskatchewan, famous for the underground spring-fed lake which is so rich in dissolved salts and minerals that you float, also featured on the list.

Nim Singh, media and public relations manager at the Canadian Tourism Commission said beaches are a great option for families.

"A good one to highlight would be Wasaga beach in the Georgian Bay region of Ontario. This is cottage country, where Torontonians head out to over the summer months to play and spend their summers.

"It's the longest freshwater beach in Canada and is great for families."
