Caribbean 'is top cruising destination'

13/01/2010

Caribbean 'is top cruising destination'The Caribbean is one of the most popular regions for cruising in, according to Carnival Cruise Lines.

Jennifer de la Cruz, spokesperson for Carnival Cruise Lines, said most of its ships will continue to sail in the region during 2010.

"The Caribbean consistently offers warm, sunny weather and a wide variety of itinerary choices to many islands each with interesting culture, history, sites and experiences to offer," she noted.

She added that cruising offers both a unique and exciting vacation experience, as well as "tremendous value".

Last week, reviews and news site CruiseCritic.co.uk said the cruise industry stayed buoyant in 2009 due to cruise lines' willingness to slash prices.

Carolyn Spencer Brown, editor-in-chief of the website, said: "As the economy crumbled, the cruise lines adopted a fearless attitude toward discounting, and the resulting deals proved irresistible."

A record 1.65 million UK passengers are expected to take a cruise in 2010, according to the Passenger Shipping Association.
