Those lucky enough to be attending carnival in Rio De Janeiro should consider staying in one of the city's neighbouring beach resorts and travelling in for the festivities in order to save money, an expert has said.
Tom Hall, travel editor, Lonely Planet, said Rio offers the most famous carnival celebration in the Brazil.
"It's certainly the biggest and I think for most people going to watch or take part in carnival it is something of a once-in-a-lifetime experience so for lots of people it has to be Rio," he noted.
However, he added that many other Brazilian cities offer a good alterative to the Marvellous City.
He advised: "Salvador is the one that if you talk to people in Brazil, particularly young people, they will tell you thats the one to go to particularly for the parties.
"It starts the previous Thursday, rolls right through until the next Wednesday at dawn, with two million people taking part in it."
The annual carnival in Brazil will begin on February 13th. According to the official Brazilian carnival website, celebrations start on the Saturday before Ash Wednesday.
