Celebrity Eclipse 'to save stranded tourists'New cruise ship the Celebrity Eclipse is to set sail for Spain on a rescue mission, it has been announced.

The £500 million cruise liner from Celebrity Cruises leaves today (April 20th) and will head to Bilbao, Spain, where it will pick up customers left stranded by the recent eruption of the Icelandic volcano.

Holidaymakers who booked their trip away with Thomson Holiday, First Choice and The Co-operative Travel Group (CTTG) will be picked up.

The company said: "We are advising customers of other tour operators to not turn up at the port in the hope of travelling with Celebrity Eclipse.

"Whilst we want to get as many people home as we can, we have to adhere to strict safety and security regulations. We are only able to transport customer travelling with First Choice, Thomson Holidays and CTTG."

Scottish and Northern Irish airspace including Aberdeen, Inverness and Edinburgh airports opened for limited services today.
