Celebrity Eclipse returns from repatriation mission
27/04/2010
Nearly 2,000 stranded travellers were able to enjoy a free cruise after Celebrity Cruises' newest ship rescued them from Spain. The holidaymakers had been left stranded by the volcanic eruption in Iceland, when the owners of the Celebrity Eclipse cancelled the ships launch activities, including a promotional trip for press, and instead sent the ship to Bilbao, Spain. "We're proud of our tradition of planning and implementing meaningful and memorable ship launches, but the launch of Celebrity Eclipse is particularly unique," said Celebrity's president and chief executive officer Dan Hanrahan. "The atmosphere has been fantastic among the guests and our crew. Everyone feels they are part of something truly special," he added. Launch activities for the ship continued once the cruise liner returned back to the UK, with godmother Emma Pontin presiding over the naming ceremonies in Southampton on April 24th. Next year, the company will launch Celebrity Silhouette, which will sail from Cape Liberty (Bayonne), New Jersey.
