Christchurch 'good base for English World Cup rugby fans'
22/04/2010
Sports fans who are hoping to get cheap flights and accommodation for the New Zealand Rugby World Cup 2011 should be looking now, Tourism New Zealand has said. Taking place during September and October 2011, the six-week tournament will also include a country-wide festival. Gregg Anderson, UK regional manager for Tourism New Zealand, said many English fans will base themselves in Christchurch, as it offers an easy location from which to explore the rest of the country. Easy day trips include Hanmer Springs and North Canterbury, as well as Kaikoura, where people will find lots of things to do, he noted. "There's lots of whale watching, swimming with dolphins, seals, sea life and bird life watching and a little bit of Maori culture," he advised. Anyway who wanted to take a longer two-day trip should consider setting off on the TranzAlpine train, which goes from the west coast and back and enables visitors to experience "one of the great train trips of the world", he added.
