Food and drink festival to go ahead in New Zealand
12/02/2010
A food and drink festival with a difference is set to go ahead next month in New Zealand. The Hokitika Wildfoods Festival, held annually on the South Island's west coast, will feature food delights including worm sushi, bush bacon butties and deep fried shark, Tourism New Zealand said. About 15,000 people are expected to attend the event, which will take place on March 13th in Hokitika, located about three hours from Christchurch. The tourism body said: "The Hokitika Wildfoods Festival is a celebration of the weird and wonderful in the world of food - with many interesting snacks that are unique to New Zealand's West Coast region." Food and drink options will range from the normal - including whitebait fritters, West Coast gorse flower wine and local brewery Monteith's beer - to strange delicacies such as young lamb testicles, pickled huhu grubs, snails, eel and mountain sheep tongue. Earlier this week, online travel community Tripadviser announced that Marborough in New Zealand has been named as one of the world's top wine tourism destinations.
