Marrakesh 'to become top shopping destination'
28/05/2010
The Moroccan city of Marrakesh looks set to become even more popular thanks to the new Sex and the City film, a leading travel guide publishing company has said.Katharine Leck, managing director of Berlitz Publishing, said: "Marrakesh is one of world's hippest cities, and now with Carrie and co's seal of approval, it looks set to become a hot shopping destination too." Sex and the City 2, which goes on general release tonight (May 28th), is set to trust Morocco into the limelight. In the film Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte leave New York for a holiday in Abu Dhabi but the film's scenes were actually filmed in Morocco. Ms Leck added that "shopaholics are certainly well catered for in Marrakesh with its maze of souks offering everything from rugs, furniture, jewellery, antiques, art, books and mementoes to take home". Away from the hustle and bustle, visitors can enjoy a relaxing Hamman or take a day trip to the old fishing port of Essaouria. Other options include walking in the Ourika Valley in the foothills of the High Atlas, she added. ![]() |
