More families 'heading' to France

12/01/2010

More families 'heading' to FranceThe family holiday in France has seen a resurgence, according to an expert.

Carolyn Boyd, editor of France Magazine, said the bad weather in the UK during 2009 resulted in many British families escaping the poor conditions and heading to areas of the country such as the Vendee on the east coast for a camping or caravanning holiday.

"There has been a tendency for people to revisit the holiday ideas of their parents – pile everyone into the car, take the ferry and end up on a French campsite," she noted.

She added that Vendee and similar destinations were ideal locations for families because of they are relatively close to ferry ports, as well as the "gorgeous beaches and great weather" which can be found on the east coast.

France was listed by Simonseeks.com as one destination which will emerge as a travel hotspot during 2010 as many people abandon holidaying at home, a trend dubbed staycation.

Ms Boyd noted: "A French holiday can be the same price, if not cheaper, than a British holiday."
