Morocco 'is a bargain destination'

People looking for cheap flights and holidays this summer should consider heading to Morocco, according to a new survey. Thomas Cook's Cost of Living study revealed that Morocco is the short and medium-haul destination where holiday spending money goes the furthest, with daily costs in the North African country coming in at just £29.42 - nearly £20 cheaper than the UK. For people embarking on a long-haul trip, India is the cheapest option, with daily cost of living coming in at just over £17. Other good value options include Egypt, Spain, Cuba and Malaysia, the travel agency said. Thomas Cook UK and Ireland chief executive Ian Derbyshire said: "The fantastic news for travellers this year is that the cost of everyday essentials [has] gone down in many resorts so those looking to enjoy themselves on excursions and evening entertainment will be able to do exactly that." Last month, Katharine Leck, managing director of Berlitz Publishing, said the Moroccan city of Marrakesh looks set to become even more popular thanks to the new Sex and the City film.
