The Spanish cities of Malaga, Tenerife, Alicante, Palma and Lanzarote were among the top ten most searched for destinations from UK airports in 2010, according to travel search site Skyscanner.
Another recent poll by simonseeks.com revealed that Spain is going to be one of the summer's top destinations.
Commenting on the news, Ignacio Vasallo, UK and Europe director of the Spanish Tourism Office, said: "British visitors are keen to explore Spain's cultural side as well as the country's food and wine offerings."
The north-west region of Spain still seems to be a well-guarded secret among those in the know, he added.
Galicia, Asturias, and Castille are three destinations that are particularly worth visiting because of the Cantabrian Mountains, the rugged landscape and unspoilt coastlines, he noted.
Mr Vasallo added that "even the best-loved destinations are being rediscovered" by tourists.
The US cities of Orlando and New York also featured on Skyscanners's list, as well a Faro in Portugal and Dalaman in Turkey.
