Parlez-vous francais? Why not learn while taking a cooking holiday?

27/07/2010

Parlez-vous francais? Why not learn while taking a cooking holiday?Parlez-vous francais? Whether your answer is un peu, non or huh!?, if you want to learn a language, it might be worth considering making your lessons part of your holiday.

Vanessa Lenssen, chief executive officer of GoLearnTo.com, suggested that doing an activity alongside learning a language helps people to engage better with the culture and "takes away the connotation of school and classrooms".

She recommended combining Spanish lessons with surfing, French classes with cooking or Italian with pizza making activities.

"The fact that you [can learn a language] alongside another activity makes it more accessible and makes it feel more like a holiday than hard work," she added.

Ms Lenssen also said that week long trips were popular but "if people want to go for longer, we encourage people to go to different locations - say for example they've got a month or three months and they want to learn Spanish or Italian, we will suggest that they go to three or four locations during that period".

But, don't forget to get some travel insurance and be aware of local laws. Skyscanner recently released a list of laws in foreign countries that Brits may be unaware of, while a Foreign Office report published statistics on Brits running into trouble abroad.
