People visiting Thailand will often find that the level of service and Thai hospitality provided in hotels means that the places they are staying in are often of a higher quality than the star system suggests, it has been claimed.
Joanna Cooke, UK and Ireland marketing manager for the Tourism Authority of Thailand, noted that the standard of hospitality and service in the country "automatically adds an extra star to where you are staying".
She said that there are numerous five star and boutique hotels, even in places which are off the beaten track, while the country also offers numerous cultural activities.
"In Bangkok alone there are over 300 temples. The cultural, the Buddhist culture and the temples in Thailand are very much part of their daily life still, which can be found all over Thailand, there are temples everywhere," Ms Cooke added.
According to estimated figures from Tourism Authority of Thailand, more than 700,000 British people visited the south-east Asian country in 2009.
