Thailand announces tourism incentives
08/07/2010
Thailand hasn't exactly been at the top of most people's holiday wish list this year, what with all that political instability, frequent riots in the country's capital, Bangkok, and tourist visa fees. But, tourism bosses are now trying to entice people to head to the south-east Asian country, which is known for its islands, beaches and temples. The Thai government has decided to waive tourist visa fees until March 31st 2011, while many hotels have launched special packages and promotions, meaning visitors should be able to pick up a bargain. Their plans seem to be working, because travel operators are reporting an increase in bookings. Niel Alobaidi, commercial director for Hayes & Jarvis, said: "While the political instability definitely dented bookings in the short term, Thailand has now turned the corner and bookings for Phuket and Koh Samui are exceptionally strong." If you're heading to Thailand, try and visit Bangkok, where you can explore floating markets and the Grand Palace. For a quieter pace of life, opt for one of the islands, such as Phi Phi, and sit back and enjoy the sunshine. Don't miss out on the best offers and prizes and visit our travel deals.
